IBM reports it is once again the number one server vendor in the world, based on factory revenue, according to the reports from industry analysts at IDC and Gardter Dataquest.
IDC data shows that IBM gained world wide revenue share year-to-year in several key server segments. Highlights include:
-- IBM remained number one in overall servers gaining worldwide revenue share year-to-year.
-- IBM was the fastest growing UNIX vendor in revenue year to year for the 8th consecutive quarter.
-- IBM was the fastest growing x86-based server vendor in revenue year to year for the 8th consecutive quarter.
-- IBM is the number one vendor in terms of both revenue share and shipments for blade servers.
-- In Linux servers, IBM is the fastest growing vendor in terms of revenue share year to year, while HP and Dell both lost share for the quarter.
According to the independent Gartner research, IBM led all vendors widening its lead over the competition. Key Highlights:
-- IBM gained in overall server market revenue
-- In the UNIX market, IBM continued to grow revenue share.
-- IBM increased its revenue share of the Intel market, out-gaining other top tier vendors YTY.
In terms of individual year to year segment growth in the 1Q of 2004, IBM:
-- Had the top growth in revenue share among top-tier UNIX vendors
-- Had the top growth in revenue share among top-tier Intel vendors
-- IBM continues to lead the industry as the #1 worldwide Linux server vendor
