Turbolinux Releases Versatile Turbolinux 10 Server
By NewsDesk
Oct 7, 2004

Turbolinux, a global leader of Linux-based solutions, will release an enhanced and upgraded version of Turbolinux 10 Server (10S), marking the major rev of the program in two years.

The comprehensive and cost-effective server environment surpasses first-generation edge servers by employing fully integrated database management systems (DBMS) and offers enhanced, multi-use application server solutions will be available in December, the company announced.

Turbolinux 10S significantly expands on the high performance capabilities of its first-generation predecessor, Turbolinux 8 Server, released in October of 2002. “Like all previous product offerings, 10 Server was subjected to a thorough slate of research and testing protocols, and we are extremely pleased with the results,” said Koichi Yano, president and COO of Turbolinux. “As a second-generation prototype, 10S now incorporates the most recent technology solutions of open source and commercial software with several robust characteristics of earlier operating systems.”

In addition to the carefully selected suite of pre-tested and optimized integrated open source and commercial software, Turbolinux 10S amplifies speed, security and platform flexibility. Thus, 10S is an exceptionally strategic fit for small-to-medium businesses, governments, and academic institutions, as well as all Linux users focused on mid-to-high end server needs.

Latest Kernel Upgrade
Turbolinux’s advanced server environment is based on kernel version 2.6.8, the latest stable kernel available today. It features maximum levels of performance and scalability for the most challenging business needs and applications. In addition, 10S offers optimal speed and application flexibility by utilizing a default version of NPTL for DBMS (database management systems), Java and other business software. An alternative method employing LinuxThreads is also available to serve more conventional applications.

Moreover, Turbolinux’s transition into the next generation server supports a Selectable I/O Scheduler, facilitating the appropriate I/O property setting and overall performance of the SMP environment. Additionally, by supporting asynchronous I/O (AIO), the processing speed of heavy disk I/O such as DBMS and file server processing significantly improves. 10S has the ability to support up to a 32-CPU SMP machine with NUMA.

Vital Security Components
In today’s computing environment, information protection is a primary concern. Turbolinux 10S supplies users with indispensable security options, including TurboTools,
a proprietary Turbolinux program that provides visual security options and updates; automatic installation of Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux); and an innovative trial version of Trend Micro’s ServerProtect for Linux antivirus software, enabling real-time virus monitoring. Furthermore, after the installation process, all services and ports are automatically closed providing additional safeguards against security holes that can be generated during the initial configuration.
